Ink Therapy / Trauma Informed
We offer a trauma-informed tattoo experience—meaning we prioritize consent, choice, and clear communication so you can feel as safe and supported as possible throughout your appointment. You never have to explain your history here; we’ll focus on what you need to be comfortable.
What “trauma-informed” means here
Trauma can shape how we experience pain, touch, body exposure, and being in a setting where someone else is “in charge.” Trauma-informed tattooing is simply a way of working that reduces surprises, centers your autonomy, and makes room for breaks, questions, and accommodations—without requiring you to disclose anything personal.
What you can expect
- Consent-first approach: We explain what we’re doing and ask before touching or repositioning.
- Choice and control: You can request breaks, adjust pacing, and use a clear pause/stop signal.
- Transparency: We talk through placement, pricing, timing, and what sensations to expect.
- Privacy and respect: We minimize unnecessary exposure and keep the space professional and nonjudgmental.
- Comfort options: We’ll do our best to support sensory needs and accessibility requests.
Your choices & consent
Before we begin, we’ll go over placement and aftercare, and you’re always welcome to share preferences (quiet vs. conversation, breaks, draping, a private area if available, sensory needs, etc.). You can share as little or as much as you want—what matters is what helps you feel comfortable.
- We’ll tell you what to expect (timing, cost, etc.) before we start.
- You can request breaks at any time—no explanation required.
- We’ll check in and keep you updated on what’s happening next.
- We can adjust positioning, take grounding breaks, or reduce conversation if that helps.
Aftercare & follow-up
We’ll send you home with clear aftercare instructions (spoken and written). If you have questions later, you can reach out—healing can bring up surprises, and you don’t have to figure it out alone.
- Photos are always optional. We’ll ask first, and we can avoid faces/identifying features or skip photos entirely.
- We won’t rush you out. You’re welcome to take a moment to sit, drink water, and reset before you go.
Want to share preferences?
You can let us know what helps—quiet vs. conversation, music volume, breaks, draping, scent sensitivity, a support person (if our policy allows), or anything else. You never need to justify a boundary; we’ll respect it.
Comfort & accessibility
- Sensory-friendly options when possible: We can adjust music volume and do our best to keep the space calm and predictable.
- Privacy: We’ll discuss what needs to be uncovered and use draping/coverage options whenever we can.
- Accessibility: Tell us what you need for positioning, mobility, or comfort, and we’ll plan together.
A note on boundaries
Trauma-informed care isn’t therapy—it’s a respectful way of working. If something feels uncomfortable at any point, you can ask to pause, change course, or stop. If you ever want outside support, we’re happy to suggest general resources you can explore, such as The Creative Therapy Center, a partner of Subjective Art Tattoo.
Respect and inclusivity
- We aim to create a space that is respectful of all identities and bodies.
- We don’t make assumptions about pain tolerance or comfort—your feedback guides the session.
- We treat your information, placement choices, and stories as private.
Ready to book? Tell us what you’re looking for and any comfort needs you have—we’ll help you plan a session that feels as steady, informed, and supportive as possible.
